The Process and Pricing

As you travel around the internet you'll see trained retrievers selling anywhere from 500.00-10K and more.  Why is there such a huge difference in pricing? Well, if you're not careful, you will find out the hard way.  I can't tell you how many clients have called me telling me that so and so ripped them off or, "I paid a trainer x amount of dollars to train my dog and the dog won't even pick up a bird" Lets face it, most people aren't dog trainers and really don't know what the cost of a well trained retriever should be.  They have to trust whoever is selling them the dog.  For the most part, reputable dog trainers are honest people who aren't out to rip anyone off.  However, there are those out there who don't care about anything other than making a buck.  I've seen it first hand.

Here's how we take the guess work out of it for you.  At Pin-Mark Retrievers we do something called profiling.  It’s a way for us to get to know what type of dog you are looking for and at a price that you can afford.  The profile consists of approximately 12 questions: Price range, color, sex, training level, will he be used for upland hunting, duck hunting, etc.   We then take that information and do a nationwide search to locate the dog that meets YOUR CRITERIA, not ours.  This process can take as little as a few days, weeks or even months to locate the right dog for you.  If you're looking for a trained retriever that you can pick up today please call someone else.  We want to find the right dog...not just any dog and to do it correctly can take some time.  Once the dog is located we will send you pictures of the dog with a little description of their training level.  With your concurrence, we have the dog shipped out to us and we evaluate its training, personality, etc.  If I don't like it, you'll never see it.  In my many years of locating trained retrievers for clients, I have only had one dog that turned out to be a bust.  As mentioned earlier, I am very particular about the dogs I purchase for my clients.  Once the dog arrives and I have shot birds over it, evaluated its personality, etc. you then come up and pick up your new family member knowing that your trained retriever received a 3rd party objective evaluation. We provide health clearances as well.

Trained retriever pricing is based on many factors with the most important being the level of training.  Let's run some numbers.  Let's say you were going to buy a puppy and have it trained.  A well bred hunting puppy WITH ALL THE APPROPRIATE HEALTH GUARANTEES at 7 weeks old will cost you approximately 800.00 Most folks send their pups off to a professional for training at around 10-12 mos old.  Between 7 weeks of age and 10 months of age you will have invested approximately 1800.00 (Shots, dog food, shoes they tore up, hoses they ate, vet bills, etc.) Now its time to send the pup off to a pro for training which can cost upwards of 700.00 per month with a 3 month minimum. So, the total price for that pup and training fees will run approximately 4K.  4K for a dog where there is no guarantees that the dog will hunt.  Just because you have a well bred pup doesn't mean they will make a great hunting dog and more importantly a good family pet. OUR PRICES ARE LESS THAN THAT FOR A STARTED DOG AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE GETTING. THERE IS NO GUESSWORK!!
